关于不合逻辑的表达的意义, 维特根斯坦认为我们无法想象也无法理解 不合逻辑的东西, 不合逻辑的表达无法想象, 也无意义, 如 没有长度的棍子 .然而类似 太阳从西边出来 的表达同样 不合逻辑, 却可以想象, 有意义.不合逻辑的语言表达到底能否付诸想象? 其意义情况又如何? 通过回答 没有长度的 棍子 为何不可想象、 是否有意义及意义是什么等问题, 可以发现我们可以想象部分不合逻辑的东西, 即不合逻辑并不意 味着不可想象, 即使不合逻辑且不可想象也并不意味着无意义. 关键词: 不合逻辑的表达;

About the meaning of illogical expressions,Wittgenstein claimed that we can neither imagine nor understand anything illogical,which means that illogical expressions such as a rod without length are unimaginable and meaningless. However,some illogical expressions,taking The sun rises from the west for exam- ple,are undeniably imaginable and meaningful. So can we really imagine illogical things? And how meanings are expressed in il- logical expressions? Through figuring out the reasons for unimaginability and the meaningfulness of a rod without length ,we may conclude that being illogical does not entail being unimaginable. In other words,we can imagine illogical things,and even both illogical and unimaginable things may not be said to be meaningless. Key words: illogical expression;

1 引言 乔姆斯基和维特根斯坦关于意义的观点基本对立. 乔姆斯基认为语义由句法结构和词项决定, 基本持意义组 合论( semantic compositionality) 的观点( Pagin,Westerst° ahl 2011) , 而维特根斯坦强调表达式的意义在于其使用情境 的观点则可归入意义整体论.但是, 他们在不合逻辑的 表达是否有意义的问题上却是一致的, 都认为不合逻辑 的表达没有意义.乔姆斯基自创一个各语词间相互逻辑 不通的句子 Colorless green ideas sleep furiously( Chomsky 1957: 15) , 试图说明违背逻辑的表达即使合乎表面语法 关系仍然没有意义.维特根斯坦(

1922 /1985) 则明确将 不合逻辑的表达划分在有意义的界限外.
