1990 Web publication
2008 Printed by SIL Printing Department Ukarumpa, Eastern Highlands Province Papua New Guinea ii Dadibi English Tok Pisin Dictionary 2/15/2008 Preface [1990 publication] This dictionary is divided into three major subdivisions.
The first is an alphabetical Dadibi- first listing of common words and phrases. A Tok Pisin and English meaning is given in most cases. This section is intended to be valuable for the Dadibi speaking students of the Tokples and Community Schools. The second major subdivision is arranged by topics so it will be easier for an English or Tok Pisin speaker to find Dadibi words or expressions. The first two topics are simply MISCELLANEOUS THINGS and VERBS. Following these two categories are a number of topics listed alphabetically. WILD LIFE and BIRD NAMES are included as the last two topics. The third major subdivision contains some basic grammar ideas from the Dadibi language. It should help to get an elementary understanding of how the verbs and the noun phrases work in the language. It is, however, far from comprehensive in its scope. This dictionary is a preliminary document and will be used to solicit feedback for a more thorough set of dictionaries to follow. We would expect to have an English-first and a Dadibi-first book and to include more examplarv information of word and phrase usage. Note to the
2008 edition This publication, prepared for the web, differs in some ways from the original printed version. Part
1 consists of a full Dadibi-English wordlist, which merges information from the first and second subsections of the original. Part
2 is the original second subdivision, which lists a number of Dadibi words arranged by semantic domains. This is followed by part 3, an English-Dadibi finderlist, which was not part of the original. Part
4 finally is the original third subdivision, outlining some basic grammatical features of the language. The accented vowels in the wordlists represent nasalised vowels;
in the
1990 edition nasalisation was indicated by subscript dots. a a 2/15/2008 Dadibi English Tok Pisin Dictionary iii Tobolu Po E Dadibi Po buku tomode dai sela elalubo.
