(b) Media There was an increased exposure of building surveyors in the press, online media, television and radio, with topics covering fire safety, building safety, flat inspection, subdivided flats in industrial buildings, bid rigging and Building Repair Maintenance Authority, etc. The efforts of the spokesmen and veteran surveyors have been well appreciated. 5. Society and Community (a) Building Surveying Volunteer Team (BSVT) To conclude the voluntary green roof inspection services scheme, the Building Surveying Volunteer Team held a debriefing session on

28 volunteers in attendance. The purpose of this event was to take all volunteers back in time to revisit the green roof collapse incident at CityU, share their observations of and challenges encountered in green roof inspections, and highlight the public engagement exercise involved. The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) announced an affordable shared housing project C Community Housing Movement in September 2017. BSD considers it another opportunity for building surveyors to contribute to the community by participating in flat screening exercises. A volunteer team is being formed to provide the services.

43 (b) Building Repair and Maintenance Authority (BRMA) The BRMA suggestion was again put forward to public and Government through press releases. We trust that the Government should seriously consider setting up BRMA to address the threats of bid rigging to flat owners. (c) Building Rehabilitation Platform The Urban Renewal Authority has established a Building Rehabilitation Platform (BRP) to support building owners who face the dilemma of making major repairs to their buildings. Building professionals were invited to join the respective committees of BRP. BSD supports this initiative as its objectives are very similar to BRMA. In this respect,
