'Respite Service for Elderly Persons' provides temporary day care service or short-term residential service for elderly persons. It serves the objective of providing support and temporary relief for family members or relatives who are the main caregivers of elderly persons requiring a certain degree of personal care whilst residing in the community. It aims at encouraging and helping elderly persons to continue living in the community as long as possible. What are the eligibility criteria? Elderly persons are considered eligible for respite service if they are: ? in need of general personal care and/or limited nursing care;

? suitable for communal living, e.g. without aggressive or violent behaviour;

and ? not suffering from contagious disease. What are the types of 'Respite Service for Elderly Persons'? Day Respite Service ? Service is provided by all subvented day care centres/units for the elderly (DEs/DCUs) across the territory. ? Service provision is from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays, depending on the actual opening hours of the centres. ? Applicants may call or approach DEs/DCUs direct or request referrals through welfare or medical organisations. Residential Respite Service ? There are designated places for respite service including care-and- attention (C&A) places in subvented residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs) and C&A or nursing home (NH) places in contract homes. ? Residential respite service is also provided in all subvented RCHEs, subvented NHs, contract homes and private homes participating in the Enhanced Bought Place Scheme through the use of casual vacancies of the subsidised places. ? What is the fee?
