11 1 Overview Bosch Video Management System 2.3 supports new Bosch HD cameras with both 720p and 1080p HD resolution. With this integration, some configuration settings regarding Live and Recording settings have been changed. In general, there is a split between schedule-independent settings (Cameras tab), and schedule-dependent settings (Day, Night, Weekend, … tabs). In the schedule-independent configuration settings, you configure the streams. In the schedule-depedent configuration settings, you assign these streams to different use cases, as live video, alarm or continous recording.

2 Firmwares Bosch Video Management System is able to manage a combination of multiple devices (VIP X and ARM) as of version 2.2.0. Each device family is working with its own firmware. It depends on the current device and not on the firmware which codec you can configure.

3 Schedule-independent stream configuration You can configure different codec profiles in the Camera and Recording page of the Configuration Client. Figure 3.1 Configuration thread Click the Cameras tab to display the schedule-independent configuration for Stream

1 and Stream

2 (see Figure 3.2).

Configure the codec and the schedule-independent quality (or non-recording quality) per video stream. Perform this for all devices. Note: The non-recording quality is the fall-back quality being used, if no schedule for recording is active. This is only the case, if recording stops, e.g. because of insufficient storage. Additionally the non-recording quality can be used for live viewing for VIP X devices. Figure 3.3 Camera Table C Non-recording Quality 3.1 Codecs and HD resolution Codecs are part of the schedule-independent configuration. Bosch VMS has default settings for all codecs and qualities, but you can change the default settings. Bosch Video Management System Schedule-independent stream configuration | en

5 Bosch Sicherheitssysteme GmbH Technical Note DOC | V1 | 2011.02 Figure 3.4 Camera Table C Codecs It depends on the camera device family which codec you can select. See the list below for detailed information per device family. VIP X platform The MPEG-4 SH++ codec profile is available. H.264 Baseline Profile (BP) is not supported in Bosch VMS for VIP X platform devices. VIP X

1600 XFM4 It is possible to configure H.264 BP+ (Baseline Profile+) and H.264 MP (Main Profile). As per default H.264 MP is set for both streams

1 and 2. We recommend not changing these settings. Note: The H.264 BP+ codec for XFM4 is limited to

2500 kbps. Note: The Recording Qualities dialog has been renamed to Stream Quality Settings. For VIP X

1600 XFM4 devices specific H.264 codec functions are available in the Stream Quality Settings dialog box (see Figure 3.5). Figure 3.5 VIP X1600 XFM4 Settings You can enable or disable H.264 deblocking filter and CABAC (Context-based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding) individually for each stream quality. If a large amount of Image panes are required to display in Operator Client, resolve performance issues by disabling CABAC and H.264 deblocking filter. ARM SD (Standard Definition) An ARM SD device has a special pre-defined H.264 codec profile which you can select, i.e. H.264 MP Low Latency. You can configure H.264 MP Low Latency and H.264 BP+. As per default H.264 MP Low Latency is configured for both streams

1 and 2. We recommend not changing these settings. Note: The H.264 BP+ codec for ARM SD devices is limited to

1200 kbps. Note: If live video shall be displayed on a VIPX Decoder, select H.264 BP+ due to hardware limitations of the decoder. It is only possible to use H.264 BP+ on one stream. If H.264 MP is selected, live video on a decoder is not possible.

1 is the main HD stream. You can copy stream

1 and generate a second HD stream with the same settings. All Bosch HD models are able to generate an independent second stream in SD resolution with different settings to stream 1. You may limit the performance of stream

1 to do that (see device data sheet). The stream quality levels can be configured in the stream quality dialog. The table below shows possible settings for Bosch HD 720p and 1080p cameras:

4 Stream assignment for Live and Recording After defining configuring basic stream configurations settings you just assign the pre- configured streams to different use cases. The use cases are: C Live Video C Continuous or Pre-Alarm Recording C Alarm Recording 4.1 Live Video Select one of the pre-defined streams which shall be used for Live Video, see Figure 4.1. Note: Currently VIP X devices support live for stream

5 Changing qualities in schedules Figure 5.1 Camera Table C Qualities It is possible to configure other stream qualities per recording schedule. It depends on the encoder/camera models which quality properties can be modified. VIP X platform It is possible to switch recording qualities (incl. resolution change) i.e. for alarm recording. VIP X

1600 XFM4 It is possible to switch recording qualities (incl. resolution change) i.e. for alarm recording. Possible recording gaps can be up to

4 frames, 133/160ms (NTSC/PAL) on alarm recording and schedule change if active recording quality differs. ARM platform You can modify the existing stream in the Alarm Quality column with the settings of another stream quality. But only Image encoding interval and Target bit rate are modified. Other settings like the resolution are not modified. Example: Stream

2 (Live stream) is selected for alarm recording in the Alarm Quality column and configured with Normal quality. For an alarm the Excellent quality is selected. When an alarm occurs, all settings of the Normal quality are used except Image encoding interval and Target bit rate. Image encoding interval and Target bit rate are modified with the values of Excellent. Continuous or Pre-Alarm Recording Stream
