1999 Policy Address, the Chief Executive emphasised the importance of the community, the business sector and the Government collaborating in partnership to embrace the principles of sustainable development. In light of the policy direction, the Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) was established with a sum of $100 million to provide a central source of financial support for initiatives that will help develop a strong public awareness of the concept of sustainable development and to encourage sustainable practices in Hong Kong. Fund Objectives ? to promote public understanding of the importance of advancing the long-term economic, social and environmental interests of the community in a balanced and integrated manner;

? to encouarge everyday practices that are consistent with the principles of sustainability;

and ? to encourage public participation in the discussion and implementation of Hong Kong'

15 local large corporations, BEC endeavours to introduce the concept of Corporate Sustainability to high school students through the Corporate Sustainability For Schools (CS4Schools) programme, preparing them to master the CS concept before entering society.
