2hydroxyethyl) 21, 82naphthali m ide (N P I) w ere studied. The transient absorp tion spectra of N P I in H2O
2 CH3CN solution w ere successfully detected upon pulsed ex2 citation at
355 nm.
3 N P Iw as p roved as the p ri m ary excited state w ith lifeti m e of
147 Λs .
3 N P I underw ent the T2T energy transfer w ith Β2carotene and ET w ith triphenyl am ine to p roduce N P I - ・ . In the absence of quenchers, the self2quenching of
3 N P I by the ground states of N P I took p lace via ET. The ET from nu2 cleosides to
3 N P Iw as also exp lored. N P I show ed a strong electron2accep ting capability and the absorbance of
3 N P Iw as strongly quenched by the nucleosides . The form ation of N P I - ・ w as facilitated to a great ex2 tent si m ultaneously. The bi molecular quenching rate constants of N P I by GUA and DGUA w ere deter2 m ined as k3 = 8. 8*106 mol -
